 McAdory at Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa | Friday, October 9, 2015 | 6A Region 4 Game
QB #15 Cole Fredrick & RB #4 Brian Robinson (Hillcrest-Tusc) along with QB #1 Jay Jones & #3 Shaq Terry (McAdory)

In a key Class 6A, Region 4 contest, the McAdory Yellow Jackets travel to #8 Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa game where this winner could be your region champion. Both teams come into the game 3-0 in the region, but have some interesting losses along the way.

McAdory (5-1), coming in with a win over a solid Bessemer City team, still might be stinging from that Pinson Valley 24-21 overtime loss at home. "We responded in a very positive way," said Yellow Jackets Head coach David Powell. "Hopefully we have learned from some critical mistakes that we made in that game. Take nothing away from Pinson Valley, they played a great game. We did have some miss opportunities. We looked at it and went to work on Monday."

In the Bessemer City win, McAdory QB Jay Jones was our 6A "Player of the Week" completing 7-of-14 passing with 174 yards & 2 TD's with 189 yards rushing on 21 carries & 3 TD's. What a huge weapon for the Yellow Jackets. "He is such a great playmaker for us with his legs and arm while we trust his judgement," added Powell. "Great arm with great foot speed. Started 13 games last year. Playing his a higher level of confidence that trusts his receivers. Great talent. For the season, Jones has completed 43-of-78 for 919 yards & 10 TD's along with 627 yards on 59 carries & 9 TD's. You can see if is very easy to see how well Jones has played this season.

Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa has faced a few good quarterbacks this season with Bentley (Opelika), Pigrome (Clay-Chalkville), K.D. Davis (Bessemer City) and Tommy Bryant (Northridge). Now add Jones to that list after Friday night. "We have to get a lot of players to him at one time, if it is one on one situation, its not going to be good for our defense,"said Patriots Head coach Sam Adams. "There are not many defensive players in the state that can get Jay Jones down one on one. We just hope we can limit the times we have to tackle him in wide open space."

With him in the backfield is Shaquil Terry is very quick and has some power to him. The senior running back is a very hard runner that need multiple defenders bringing down on the turf. Terry has 726 yards on 78 carries & 9 TD's on the season. Jones has a couple of very good receivers. Malcolm Askew has 16 receptions for 412 yards & 5 TD's and Willie Langham has 16 receptions for 369 yards & 3 TD's on the season.

For McAdory on defense, linebacker Phillip Brown leads the way. Armon Shaw, Quindarius Coles, and Dakota Chapman along with their other teammates will have their hands full with Patriots running back Brian Robinson. Robinson can shift speeds or can lower the hammer on you during a run and looks to play a key role in this big area game. Robinson rushed for 447 yards on 29 carries & 4 TD's against #1 Clay-Chalkville earlier in the season. "We have to run to the ball. He is a big back that can break tackles," said Powell. "We need to get to the ball, wrap up and try to get him to the ground. Our defensive persuit needs to be good."

Robinson, probably the best back in the 2017 class, is a load to bring down but has very well balance between the tackles. "With Brian having early success, teams have tried to make us beat them with other guys and we have done that," said Adams. "Brian tends to perform well in our big games. We look for him to carry it a lot Friday night. He can handle 30 to 35 carries a game." For the season, Robinson has 1,014 yards on 154 carries and 12 TD's. Robinson has college offers from Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi and Louisville.

Cole Frederick leads the Hillcrest offense. Frederick does a great job of running and passing with the football. "Cole is playing pretty good. Each week he is getting better and better. He can throw it or run it," said Adams. "We tried to feature his abilities more and more each week." Frederick has completed 78-of-137 1,102 yards and 9 TD's with 191 yards on 46 carries and 2 TD's.

Frederick has weapons on offense that the Patriots lool to get the ball in their hands. Torin Mayhew has 431 yards on 28 receptions and 3 TD's. Mayhew has the best hands on the team with only one drop this whole season. Jahi Brown, who caught two TD passes against Opelika, has 421 yards on 25 receptions and 4 TD's. Jaaron McMillan and Kamron Oliver round out the receivers for the Patriots.

Offensive lineman Clay Martin, Micah Robbins, and Clay Martin lead the way for the Patriots offense. The offensive line has been solid with Robinson rushing over his 1,000 yards through seven games.

On defense, the Patriots have two shutouts over Selma and Oak Mountain. Middle linebacker Kobe Redmond has played well for the Patriots. Redmond played on outside linebacker last season and has done a great job in the middle for the Patriots defense. Carson Williams is one of the leading tacklers on the season. Williams started at safety as a sophomore last year and will be an important player against Jones and the McAdory offense.

Tyler Long, Malik Crenshaw and Chris Finch lead the defensive line for the Patriots. In the secondary, Cagan Campbell is having a big year. Campbell is averaging 29.1 yards per punt return with one touchdown.

Look for a lot of scoring in this game. The defense that can turn a turnover and a few stops is going to win this game. Look for both teams to score over 35 points tonight.
