HOOVER, Alabama -- After the last two Hoovers games, it looks like Bucs swag could be back and that means bad news for other opponents heading into the 2015 AHSAA 7A playoffs. Hoover defeated North Marion 38-14 at the Hoover Met Thursday night before an ESPN2 audience and dominated for most of the game. With the win, the Bucs clinch home field advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

North Marion (8-1) scored on their first possession of the game, but the Bucs defense clamped down for most of the night to give the Colts their first loss of the season. "I'm proud of our kids, I'm sure when they scored on their first possession everyone was probably saying O no while we didn't start off real well," said Bucs Head coach Josh Niblett. "Once they scored we knew we couldn't give up the big play. Our kids prepared all week very well. We played well and played physical."

To start the game, the Bucs (8-2) took the kickoff but went three and out then punted to North Marion. On the Colts second play, a Caleb Seiler to Freddie Swain hit on a slant and the Florida Gators commitment took it 66-yards for a touchdown and the Colts were rolling 7-0 early in the first quarter. With 6:18 in the first quarter, Chris Vacarella ran the boot leg around right end with a 4-yard touchdown run for the Bucs. With the extra point by Barrett Pinkering, the score was tied at 7-7. Tyler Byrd setup the first Hoover TD with an interception.

For the rest of the first half, the Bucs kept the Colts out of the end zone while Hoover scored three touchdowns and a field goal before the half. With 3:47 left in the first quarter, C.J. Sturdivant rushed in for a 2-yard touchdown run. Pinkering kicked the PAT. Hoover led 14-7. With 11:22 in the second quarter, Vacarella scored his second TD of the game on a 3-yard rush for the Bucs. Hoover led 21-7.

Midway through the second quarter, Pinkering kicks his first field goal of the night and Hoover extends its lead to 24-7. With 2:05 left in the half, Vonte Brackett scores on an 8-yard touchdown run. Hoover led 31-7 at the half and played a great first half of football. "We did a great job of complimenting one another," added Niblett. "We played great in the first half and had a good week of practice this week." Vacarella completed 10-of-18 passing for 122 yards and had 16 yards on seven carries and two touchdowns. Brackett had 77 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown.

In the second half, North Marion scored midway through the third quarter on a Seiler to Swain 8-yard touchdown pass play for the Colts. North Marion cuts the Bucs lead to 31-14. "We have to do a better job of being disciplined when things go wrong in a game," said Colts Head coach Stephen Field. "Good experience for our kids, but this was not North Marion football. Hats off to Hoover, we have a lot respect for Hoover."

With 10:40 left in the game, Galen Richardson scored on a 19-yard touchdown run. With the Bucs TD, Hoover led 38-14.

Hoover linebacker Kholbe Coleman had an outstanding game with eight tackles, including three for loss, a sack and forced fumble. Ben Abercrombie had eight tackles and linebacker Jeremiah Moon had seven tackles on the night. "We had a great week of practice," said Bucs LB Coleman. "We had a great game plan coming into the game and coaches did a great job of giving us that game plan."
