PRATTVILLE, Alabama -- Junior quarterback Josh Moore ran for two touchdowns and ran for another TD as the Prattville Lions go on and defeat Smiths Station 28-7 in a key 7A Region 2 contest at Stanley-Jensen Stadium. Running back Kingston Davis was the other big weapon for the Lions in getting the big region win.

Prattville (3-0, 1-0) went up 14-0 at the half and used their stifling defense to make sure Smiths Station wasn't going to come back in the second half. The Panthers were held to only 58 total yards in the first half. "We played hard for four straight quarters, our guys battled through the bumps and bruises and got through it tonight," said Lions Head coach Chad Anderson. "The defense plays hard, they did a great job of running to the football and played together very well. This is a very close group that likes each other."

Prattville scored first in the game, when Josh Moore took the ball and raced 40-yards for a Lions touchdown with 3:47 left in the first quarter. The Lions took an early 7-0 lead. Moore used his speed and quickness to run around the right end for the Lions score.

With 2:29 left in the half, Davis scored on a 7-yard touchdown run. With the Lions score, Prattville led 14-0 at the half. Davis finished the night with 175 yards on 28 carries and a touchdown on a warm muggy night. "Kingston had a great night," added Anderson. "He is so powerful runner, low to the ground. He usually doens't go down on the first contact and is always falling forward. He does a great job of hitting his holes, knows the schemes of things a very smart kid. What he does with the football makes us tick."

In the second half, Moore led another Prattville drive and scored on a 22-yard touchdown run. A 49-yard run by the lefty QB setup the Lions third score of the night. The touchdown came with 4:07 left in the third quarter and the Lions led 21-0. With the three touchdown lead, Prattville linebacker K.J. Lawrence led the Lions with 12 tackles and shut down the run for most of the night. K.J. Johnson was held to 58 yards on 21 carries. "We wanted to come out strong and fast," said the Lions linebacker Lawrence. "We put in a lot of hard work in the summer and it is starting to pay off for us. We just want to keep getting better each week."

Smiths Station scored their only score of the game late in the third quarter when Dalton Sinquefield hit Austin Taylor on a 24-yard touchdown pass to get the Panthers on the scoreboard. Sinquefield completed only 9-of-27 passing for 180 yards and a touchdown. Most of the Panthers passing offense was late in the second half of the game. "I thought our defense played hard for most of the game," said Panthers Head coach Jason Dukes. "We gave up a few to many big plays. If was difficult for our offense to get going against this good defense. We had some scoring opportunities that we didn't take advantage of. I have to give credit to Prattville, this is a very good football team we played tonight."

The final score of the game came with 1:10 left in the game when Moore hit a wide open Derek Gappa 22-yard touchdown play to seal the win for the Lions. Moore had a great night for the Lions. After Prattville had five turnovers last week against Gulfport, Mississippi, this week was a different story. Moore had three interceptions in that game, but turned it around tonight. Moore completed 8-of-15 passing for 128 yards and a touchdown, while rushing for 120 yards on nine carries and two touchdowns. "We focused on not turning the ball over in practice this week," added Anderson. "When you struggle, you have to jump back in the saddle. Josh did a great job of that and making the big play."

Next week, #3 Prattville will travel to #2 Central-Phenix City in a big 7A Region 2 contest.
