 Woods commits to JSU

Hueytown Senior quarterback Earl Woods has made a verbal commitment to Jacksonville State University at Hueytown High School on Sunday afternoon. Woods ha offers to North Alabama, Grambling, Middle Tennessee State, and Jacksonville State that he was considering.

Woods chose Coach Rich Rodriguez and the Gamecocks. "I feel like I have a good chance to play there and go to the next level," said Gophers QB Woods. "They have a great atmosphere that I thought was home." Woods is having another big year for Hueytown. In six games this season, Woods has 1,231 passing yards with 17 touchdowns, along with 509 rushing yards and ten touchdowns.

Woods is looking for his time with Jacksonville, but his coach knows they have more to accomplish. "I'm so happy for him and his family," said Gophers head coach Greg Patterson. "We helped him and his family with the process for his future and are very fortunate to be a part of it. Earl still has a lot of growth at the quarterback position. Every time you step up a level, there is room for growth. For him to come here last season in July and learn the offense is just a testament to his commitment to the team, but he is also excited to finish this year with us and play with Coach Rich Rod at the quarterback position at the next level."
