 Homewood at James Clemens | Thursday - October 30, 2025 | Non-Region Game

James Clemens RB MJ Gideon

Under the bright lights of Madison City Schools Stadium in Madison, Alabama, the James Clemens Jets welcome the Homewood Patriots for a high-stakes non-region clash on Thursday night, October 30, 2025, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. This Week 10 matchup pits Class 6A Homewood with an 8-1 record, while 7A James Clemens has a 5-4 record, and both teams are looking to cement their playoff trajectory in the final stretch of the Alabama high school football regular season.

For the host Jets, it’s a chance to leverage home-field advantage and showcase their resurgence under first-year head coach Juan Johnson. For Homewood, it’s an opportunity to silence a rowdy Madison crowd and prove their road-warrior mettle as they gear up for the postseason.

Homewood is coming into the game with a three-game winning streak, and their only loss was to Mountain Brook in a crazy two-point conversion play in overtime. The Patriots easily could be undefeated. Their big win of the season is the 35-28 win at Parker back on October 17. The Patriots' defense has held six opponents to under 10 points in a game this season. On offense, they average 40.0 points per game and have rolled through Class 6A, Region 5 this year. The Patriots finished the season as the #1 seed in Class 6A, Region 5.

James Clemens, meanwhile, started hot with a 35-21 upset of Gardendale to start the season, but due to an ineligible player, they had to forfeit the win to Gardendale. James Clemens has been on a roll the last three weeks with wins over Sparkman, who won the region, at Austin, and Albertville, along with finishing as the #2 seed in Class 7A, Region 4.

This game carries the weight of history, as Homewood defeated James Clemens 24-10 in a regular-season finale on Nov. 1, 2024. Homewood head coach Ben Berguson described the game as a "physical, playoff-type" clash. The Patriots have won the last three meetings since 2019, but the Jets’ new up-tempo offense under Johnson—who brought a high-octane system from his days at Baker High—could shift the dynamic. “We’re faster and more explosive this year,” Johnson told the Madison Record.

Kaleb Carson leads the Homewood offense. The Senior QB has completed 139-of-207 passing for 1,831 yards with 24 touchdowns and only four interceptions. Also, he has 429 yards on 71 carries and seven touchdowns this season. Junior Jack Meyers is backing up Carson.

Running back Davis Griffin has rushed for 371 yards on 80 carries and has six touchdowns. Also, he adds 14 receptions for 196 yards and two touchdowns. Reid Goldstein has 279 yards on 43 carries and six touchdowns. Jackson Chapleau has 224 yards on 31 carries and nine touchdowns this season.

Wide receiver Tomon Felton has 42 receptions for 870 yards and eight touchdowns. David Walden has 40 receptions for 392 yards and three touchdowns this season. Landen Pettus and tight end Hayes Decoudres are other parts of the Patriots' offense.

Offensive linemen Walker Bostick, Gray Keown, Edwin McBride, Asher Ketchum, and center Henry Studinka have played well this season. They have protected Carson and have given him time to throw the ball downfield.

Middle linebacker Luke Eldridge has 55 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, and two sacks. Linebacker Parker Lindsey has 52 tackles, two tackles for loss, and 0.5 sacks this season. Joey Luckianow and Henry Templeton round out the linebacking crew for Homewood.

The defensive front has Randall Jaquez, Ford Hawkins, and Major Moorer, who are getting most of the work. Rod Lambert, Dennis White, and freshman Jakari Haynes will get playing time for the Patriots.

Defensive back John Martin has two interceptions, along with two blocked field goals. George Frence, who just committed to UT Martin two weeks ago, is another solid corner for the Patriots. Safeties Tate Burdeshaw and John Griffin round out the secondary. Ollie Whiten and Bryon Long will get time in the secondary.

Kicker Judson Eanes and punter Gabriel Carlson handle the kicking duties for the Patriots.

For James Clemens, junior quarterback Matthew Evers has completed 78-of-130 passing for 890 yards with seven touchdowns and five interceptions. A significant part of the Jets' offense comes from the ground game, led by their young, big offensive line. MJ Gideon has 1,002 yards on 153 carries for a 6.5 average per carry and 12 touchdowns. Christian Richey has 510 yards on 115 carries with seven touchdowns. Both are juniors and can hit the big run at any time.

The Jets' wide receiving core has top target Aaron Gonzalez, who has 25 receptions for 352 yards and three touchdowns. Elijah Sampson, Alex Lively, and Jocq Dennis. Tight ends Eric Christiansen and Quinn O'Sullivan will get playing time.

The Jets' offensive line is gaining experience every week and looks to have done a great job of creating space for the Jets' running backs, Gideon and Richey. Right tackle Karter Grace has he most size and is only a sophomore. Sophomore Evan Leathers, sophomore Kaleb Gero, junior Malikai Cooper, and sophomore Caden Gibbs round out the offensive line. Sophomore Jonathan Childress will get playing time. That is five sophomores and a junior on the Jets' front line who are gaining valuable experience going into the playoffs next week.

Defensive linemen Travis Ezell, Braylon Walters, and Abraham Canchola lead the Jets' front line.

Even though Dennis will get some playing time on offense, he leads the Jets' defense. He has 57 tackles, eight tackles for loss, and three sacks. Linebacker Kaleb Pryor has 50 tackles, five tackles for loss, and two sacks. Linebacker Eric Young has 39 tackles, two tackles for loss, and an interception. Add Nathan Holmes and Jon Leon in the mix at linebacker.

Defensive back Malik Hardy has 42 tackles, three interceptions, a blocked punt, and a blocked field goal. Christian Wyatt, Trevor Caudle, and Myles Yarbrough. Mason Rose and three interceptions, and as a team, the Patriots have 11 on the season.

Thai Lyles handles the kicking duties. The senior place kicker is 25-of-27 in extra points and is 6-for-6 on field goals with a long of 37 yards. Lyles averages 32.5 yards per punt this season.
