 James Clemens 49, Sparkman 3 Final | Friday - October 18, 2019 | Class 7A, Region 4 Game

The Jets defense flexing their will Friday night at Sparkman

HARVEST, Alabama -- Dylan Blackburn scored three touchdowns to lead James Clemens to a 49-3 win over Sparkman in a huge Class 7A, Region 4 game at Sparkman High School tonight. With the win and an Austin loss to Bob Jones tonight, the region win gives James Clemens the Region 4 Championship.

Sparkman scored first in the game, but James Clemens scored 49 unanswered points in the game. "I was so proud of our effort, we really played hard," said Jets head coach Wade Waldrop. "After that first drive, I thought we played lights out. Our defense has been playing better every week. Pleased to go on the road and get a win. Great night to be a Jet."

Sparkman (7-1, 5-1) took an early lead on a Miles Tillman 27-yard field goal. The Senators took an early 3-0 lead with 4:33 left in the first quarter. Sparkman drove right down the field and it looked like they were going to have a good offensive night, but the Jets had other plans. A Jets roughing the kicker penalty continued the drive for Senators and they took advantage with it for the early lead.

James Clemens (6-2, 6-0) took the ball after the field goal and drove 80-yards for a score. With 2:19 left in the first quarter, Dylan Blackburn scored on a 1-yard plunge and the Jets took the 7-3 lead. After a couple of punts for both teams, James Clemens scored again with 6:22 left in the half. Blackburn scored his second touchdown of the game when he took a hand off around the right end running to the end zone for the score. With the touchdown, the Jets took a 14-3 lead in the middle of the second quarter. A Connor Cantrell to Chris Hope pass play setup the touchdown when the over the head catch gave the ball at the Senators 5-yard line.

With only :32 seconds left in the half, Chase Starling scored on a 5-yard touchdown run around the right end for the score. With the touchdown, James Clemens led 21-3 at the half. Another big pass play of Cantrett to Hope of 33-yards setup the Jets touchdown. "We have put everything back together on defense since the start of the season," said Jets linebacker Keontae Strother. "We made some mistakes our first two games of the season, but right here this was a big game for us. We let their quarterback dance and when he started dancing, we just went hard to the ball to make a tackle. We need to keep our momentum going, practice hard next week and keep playing hard."

In the second half, it didn't take long as Blackburn scored his third touchdown on a long 62-yard touchdown run for a Jets score. With 10:18 left in the third quarter, James Clemens lead 28-3 and the Jets were rolling big. Blackburn finished the night with 195 yards on 24 carries and three touchdowns.

With 10:49 left in the fourth quarter, Starling scored again on a 2-yard wildcat touchdown run. With the score, the Jets led big 35-3. Chris Cooke gets the fumble recovery to setup the Jets touchdown deep in Senator territory.

With 8:52 left in the fourth quarter, Emmanuel Sanders took a pass and raced 60-yards for a touchdown up the left sideline of the field for a score. James Clemens led 42-3. On the next drive for Sparkman, Hope intercepted a Sparkman pass and the Jets took over and turned it into their last touchdown of the game. With 3:42 left in the game, Chris Baker scored on a 9-yard touchdown run to end the scoring and to give James Clemens the win and the region title. Hope plays offense and a least half the plays on defense. "I love both but offense is my home," said the Jets WR/S Hope. "Our coaching has put us in position to play great on defense. It is all about our coaches."

James Clemens rolled for over 540 yards of offense while Sparkman was held to under 200 yards of offense. Wide receiver Hope had five receptions for 114 yards.
