 Clay-Chalkville QB commits to Louisville

Clay-Chalkville quarterback Khalib Johnson gives his verbal commitment to Louisville. The dual threat QB is taking his talents to his dream school. Johnson had numerous offers but it all came back to Louisville.

"The biggest thing for me was that I made a great relationship with coach Pete Thomas and Coach Satterfield," said Johnson. "I really love the tradition and the offense really fits the way I play. Louisville is a dream school of mine since junior high."

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound junior had a tremendous season in 2020. Johnson passed for 2,476 yards and rushed for 536 yards with 31 total touchdowns on the season. Louisville, Kansas, Virginia Tech and South Florida was his final four choices. Due to COVID-19, Johnson has not visited the campus but has a trip scheduled to Louisville on June 10-13, 2021.

Johnson is glad all this is behind him and is looking forward to helping his high school win a state title his senior season. Head coach Drew Gilmer is excited for his quarterback and the things he brings to his teammates. "He can make every throw. He has the height and the strength to stay in the pocket, but the athletic ability to run at anytime during the play," said Cougars Head coach Gilmer. "Everyone is looking for the quarterback to due both, you need that guy that can put pressure on the defense. I think we have the potential to be good. We have a lot of skilled guys returning. It's been real good in the off season. As a first year starter, his decision making just was better and better each week. He is such a great leader. He is a great young man for our program. He is a program changer."

"This was a blessing to get recruited," added Johnson. "I knew from the jump that Louisville was going to be my school. We had a lot of zoom and facetime calls over the last year. I sent them a lot of workout film during the offseason and really kept in touch with Coach Thomas. They really like that I have that dual threat ability a lot like their previous QB's at Louisville."
