MONTGOMERY, Alabama -- Quarterback Tyrone Franklin accounted for five touchdowns as the Lee-Montgomery Generals go on to defeat cross-town rival Carver-Montgomery 49-14 at the Cramton Bowl on Thursday night. Franklin ran for three touchdowns and threw for two more as the Generals took control of this game from the start.

Lee-Montgomery (6-0, 3-0) scored the first four touchdowns of the game before Carver-Montgomery could get on the scoreboard. "We played for four quarters so I was proud of our guys for that," said Generals head coach Eric Hudson. "We had a little letdown in the third quarter, but came back strong in the middle of the third quarter to finish out the game. We are just trying to get better on running the ball and play great defense."

Lee opened the scoring first in the game when Franklin scored on a 5-yard touchdown run around left end with 9:14 left in the first quarter. With the score, the Generals led 7-0. With 3:11 left in the first quarter, Reggie Davis scored on a 20-yard touchdown run off right tackle while busting a tackle in the secondary. With the score, Lee took a 14-0 lead.

With 10:12 left in the second quarter, Franklin found Jakel Williams on a 25-yard touchdown pass. Williams tipped the ball in the air and the ball found its way to his hands running it in the end zone for the score. With the touchdown, the Generals led 21-0 and was taking control of the game because the Lee defense was forcing Carver to punt the ball away most of the first half. "Were just getting better on defense," said Generals linebacker Reggie Fowler. "We have to come out with a better attitude and focus a little bit more. This is a very big game for us and we wanted to prove to everyone that were the best team in the city." 

With 4:31 left in the half, Lee scored again on a Franklin to Demarshia Davis on a 43-yard touchdown pass play. Lee scored off a turnover from Carver on a QB sack and fumble recovery. With the score, the Generals led 28-0. With 1:04 left in the half, Carver quarterback Kole Williams found Shang Thomas in the back of the end zone for a 16-yard touchdown play for the Wolverines. E'nicholes Hamilton long run around the right end setup the Wolverines touchdown. With the Carver score, Lee led 28-7 going into halftime.

WIth 4:48 left in the third quarter, Carver scored again to cut the Lee lead with a Williams 15-yard touchdown run. With the score, the Generals led 28-14 midway through the third quarter, but the Generals used their big offensive line and rushed the ball nine straight times and scored on a Franklin 1-yard QB sneak with 1:38 left in the third quarter. With the score, Lee led 35-14 late in the third quarter.

With 8:34 left in the fourth quarter, Franklin scored his third touchdown in the game on another QB sneak of 1-yard. With the score, the Generals led 42-14. "I thought we were explosive," said Generals QB Franklin. "We executed what the defense gave us. We wanted to play fast and physical in the second half because we saw them get tired." Franklin finished the game completing 10-of-17 passing for 202 yards with 2 touchdowns and an interception that went off the receivers hands. Also, the senior QB had 16 yards on 5 carries & three touchdowns.

With only :48 seconds to go in the game, Brian Thomas scored on a 6-yard touchdown run to complete the scoring and a Lee 49-14 win. On the night, Reggie Davis had 124 yards on 16 carries and a touchdown, Brian Thomas had 78 yards on 3 carries and a touchdown, Demarshia Davis had 61 yards on four receptions and a touchdown and Jamari Smith had 66 yards on four receptions for the Generals. James Russell led the Generals defense with 12 tackles, one sack and two forced fumbles. Carlton Smith had a fumble recovery. For Carver, Andre' Howard had the interception and Joshua Young had an interception for the Wolverines off the Lee backup QB.

Up next for both teams, Lee-Montgomery will travel to play Prattville in a big Class 7A, Region 2 game while Carver-Montgomery will travel to Dothan in a key Class 6A, Region 2 game.
