MADISON COUNTY, Alabama -- Quarterback Logan Smothers had three touchdown runs and threw for a 32-yard touchdown pass to lead #1 6A Muscle Shoals to a 46-19 win over 7A Bob Jones at the Madison City School Stadium Friday night. After Bob Jones took a 9-0 early first quarter lead, Muscle Shoals came back with 31 unanswered points to go and get the win.

The Muscle Shoals Trojans (2-0) fell behind early in the game but dominated the final three quarters. "We kept playing hard on defense" said Trojans head coach Scott Basden. "We gave up some things early and a deep ball, but we just need to get better each week."

Bob Jones (0-2) scored first in the game on a safety when Muscle Shoals was called for holding in the end zone. So with the early safety Bob Jones led 2-0 with 9:33 left in the first quarter. With 8:07 left in the first quarter, Caden Rose hit Slate Alford on a 5-yard touchdown play and the Patriots led 9-0 to start the game. The Patrionts used different run-pass options to move down the field to set up the Patriots touchdown. 

Muscle Shoals scored next on a 33-yard field goal and the Trojans cut the Patriots lead to 9-3 with 4:19 left in the first quarter. With 2:03 left in the first quarter, Eugene Malone scored on a 4-yard touchdown run to put the Trojans up 10-9 and they didn't look back. With 10:03 left in the second quarter, Smothers scored around the right end and gave the Trojans a 17-9 lead. With Bob Jones driving late in the second quarter. Caleb McDougle came up with a big interception to erase the Patriots scoring opportunity. 

Muscle Shoals used an 80-yard, seven play drive and Smothers scores on a 2-yard run and Muscle Shoals takes a 24-9 lead with :34 seconds left in the half. "We were pretty sharp for most of the night," said Trojans QB Smothers. "We still need to keep working hard and I think we will be good."

In the second half, Muscle Shoals just kept the pressure on as they scored early and often in the second half. With 11:41 left in the third quarter, the Nebraska QB commit scored his third touchdown on a 4-yard run. With the score the Trojans led 31-9. With 7:46 left in the third quarter, Jacob Fruehwald kicked a 26-yard field goal for the Patriots and Muscle Shoals lead was 31-12. With 1:51 left in the third quarter, Smothers hit Ty Smith on a deep ball and a 32-yard touchdown play. With the score, Muscle Shoals led 38-12 late in the third quarter. "I feel like we are doing pretty good," said Trojans linebacker Jackson Bratton. "We made some mistakes but I feel like our effort was good. We need to fix a few things but I think we will be good."

With 8:51 left in the fourth quarter, Devin Townsend scored on a 15-yard touchdown and put the Trojans up 46-12. Mikey McIntosh scored on a 2-point conversion. With less than five minutes to go in the game, Jacob Guyton ripped off a 43-yard touchdown run to close out the scoring. 

Muscle Shoals had 405 total yards on the night. Smothers completed 7-of-12 passing for 154 yards and a touchdown with 79 yards on 8 carries and three touchdowns. Brooks Berry had 82-yards on 12 carries while Ty Smith had 2 receptions for 48 yards and a touchdown. McIntosh added 3 receptions for 35 yards and a two-point conversion.

"We're in the same spot we were two years ago," said Patriots head coach Kevin Rose. "Austin just wore us out in Week 2 two years ago and we came back and won seven of the last eight and hosted a playoff game. That's why I always schedule so tough early. We're prepared for anybody we play the rest of the way. This was a very good football team and can do great things in Class 6A."

Bob Jones gets a couple of additions on offense that will help the Patriots next week. Both teams go into region play next week as Muscle Shoals will play Columbia and Bob Jones will host James Clemens.
