MONTGOMERY, Alabama -- #9 Prattville scored early and often in the first half as they score 34 points in the first two quarters as the Lions go on to defeat Jeff Davis 44-7 in a Class 7A, Region 2 game at the Cramton Bowl Thursday night. Prattville scored two rushing touchdowns, two passing touchdowns, a pick-six defensive score, and a safety all in the first half.
Prattville (6-1, 3-1) has been solid the last three games of the season. "I was proud of our team and the way we handled business," said Lions head coach Caleb Ross. "We didn't play as clean as I wanted to sometimes in the first half, but I was really proud at the end of the half right we executed a two minute drive. Proud of my quarterback and our offense."
Prattville scored first when Keondre Powell scored on an 8-yard touchdown run around the right end and dove into the end zone. With 8:13 left in the first quarter, Prattville led 6-0. The two-point conversion failed. With 7:34 left in the first quarter, Ian Jackson picked off a JD pass and returned it 15-yard for a pick-six and the Lions led 12-0. Again, the two-point conversion failed.
With 6:34 left in the first quarter, Jeff Davis had a third and long play, but was sacked in the end zone for a Lions safety and Prattville led 14-0. With 7:23 left in the second quarter, a Jaden Kidd 1-yard touchdown run gave the Lions a 20-0 lead. The extra point was missed.
With 2:49 left in the half, Kendrick Rogers scored on a 4-yard jet sweep around the right end and the Lions led 27-0 late in the first half. After a three and out by Jeff Davis, Prattville drove three plays on 80-yards to get another score right before the half. The first play was a 30-yard receptions by Taylor Thompson, then a 10-yard out reception by Rogers then on the next play turned the out to a double move and Kyle Kramer hit Rogers on a 40-yard touchdown pass play for a Lions touchdown and a 34-0 half time lead. "We ran the double move and killed him with the out and up," said Lions WR Rogers. "I made sure my feet were in bound so I did a quick toe tap in the end zone. Were getting better on offense. The O-line starts it off with them getting better each week. We do so many reps, we are just getting better at it. We come into the game the right way focused. We are coached the right way, practice the right way so we are focused even on a short week of practice." Rogers finished the game with 8 receptions for 96 yards and two touchdowns.
With 2:28 left in the third quarter, the Lions drove but had to settle for a Elliott Duke 30-yard field goal. With the score, the Lions led 37-0. With 11:55 left in the game, Derryl Holmes scored on a 4-yard touchdown run around the right end of the end zone. Prattville led big 44-0 early in the fourth quarter. With 5:05 left in the game, Jeff Davis scored on a Chase Ford to Le'Tarion White 14-yard touchdown pass play for the Volunteers.
The Prattville first team defense put up a zero on defense as the second team gave up the score late in the game and have only given up three points in their last two games. "I thought the defense was steller again tonight," added Ross. "Our kids are buying in. They practice hard and prepare the right way. Our defensive staff has done a great job of teaching tackling because we can't get very physical tackling even with a short week. Were playing very good defense right now."
