The #2 Thompson Warriors will face the #3 Hewitt-Trussville Huskies in a Class 7A, Region 3 game. The winner of this game could come out with the region title if only a few weeks left in the region. Both teams are 3-0 in Region 3 and have three games left after this big matchup.
Thompson (4-2, 3-0) has region wins over Tuscaloosa County, Oak Mountain, and Vestavia Hills. The Thompson offense is averaging 38.2 points per game in six games this season, while averaging 48.3 in region play.
Starting quarterback Trent Seaborn is one of the best quarterbacks in the state and is having an outstanding season. Seaborn has completed 113 of 167 passes (68 percent) with 1,544 yards, 16 touchdowns, and six interceptions. Also, the junior quarterback has two rushing touchdowns. Seaborn has received college offers from Alabama, Miami, Oregon, and South Carolina, among many others.
RJ Evans and Urijah Casey lead the Warriors' ground game. Evans has 176 yards on 41 carries and two touchdowns. Casey has 180 yards on 26 carries with a 6.9 yards per carry with three touchdowns. Also, Jafari Pegues could get some carries in the game.
The wide receiving core is one of the best in the state of Alabama. Darion Moseley had 27 receptions for 435 yards and two touchdowns. Dedrick Kimbrough had 18 receptions for 351 yards and five touchdowns. Pryce Lewis has 19 receptions for 328 yards and two touchdowns. Trey Knight has 17 receptions for 227 yards and five touchdowns. Tight end Tanner Ehmen has two catches for 35 yards.
The Warriors' offensive line is a work in progress this season. With a few new faces, they look to gain valuable experience each game. Connor Kinnell, Jared Fikes, Maleek Billingsley, Tim Mittelstadt, and Tommy Williams will have their hands full against the Huskies' front seven.
The Warriors' defense allows only 10.2 points per game. They have given up only three points in total across three games in region play and have been dominant, except for the one game against Clay-Chalkville, where they gave up 28 points.
The defensive line boasts considerable talent, but injuries have plagued it for most of the season. Cam Pritchett leads the way with 41 tackles, six tackles for loss, and a sack. Noah Streeter is another monster on the front line. He has 39 tackles, five tackles for loss, and a sack. Ami Moala has 38 tackles, nine tackles for loss, and a sack. Wesley Gover has 32 tackles, seven tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks this season. Peter Ramil has been injured and is looking to return to the field soon.
The linebackers have a lot of talent and need a big game against the Huskies' ground game. Jermey Alo-Perry has 41 tackles, five tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks. Chancellor Strown has 40 tackles and five tackles for loss. Chauncy Alo has 38 tackles and nine tackles for loss. Colton Moore has 20 tackles on the season.
The secondary has sophomore Elijah King, who leads the Warriors with three interceptions. Terry Robinson has two interceptions, Damonte Tabb has two interceptions, and Micah Fleming rounds out the Warriors' secondary.
Ethan Black has been handling the kicking duties. Black is averaging 41.1 yards per punt. Black is 3-of-4 in field goals and has 25-of-27 extra points.
Hewitt-Trussville (6-0, 3-0) has region wins over Vestavia Hills, Hoover, and Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa. The Huskies' offense averages 37.7 points per game and 23.0 points in region play.
The Huskies' offense has used three quarterbacks this season due to an injury to senior Zach Benedict. Benedict was injured only in his second game of the season. He has completed 12 of 16 passes for 289 yards with two touchdowns, with 105 yards on six carries and two touchdowns. After the Benedict injury, freshman Jack Floyd took over the offense, but he has played in all six games this season. Jack Floyd has completed 59 of 74 passes for 652 yards with seven touchdowns and one interception. Also, he has 483 yards on 71 carries and five touchdowns. Starting linebacker Parker Floyd has been at the position at quarterback in a few games this season. He is 2 of 2 passing for 21 yards with 22 yards on eight carries. He was primarily used against Hewitt-Trussville this season.
The running game has a couple of big-play running backs. Delvecchio Alson has 425 yards on 74 carries and five touchdowns. CJ Davis has 203 yards on 56 carries and two touchdowns with 15 receptions for 196 yards and a touchdown.
The receiving core has Dylan Cope, who leads the Huskies in receptions and yards. He has 26 receptions for 456 yards and five touchdowns. Also, he has 31 yards on three carries and a touchdown. James Kelly, the fastest player on the team, has 13 receptions for 122 yards and a touchdown, with 168 yards on 30 carries and two touchdowns.
The Huskies' offensive line will have to play big against the talented defensive front of Thompson. Marion Woodley, Micah Fantroy, Jackson Webb, Calvyn Speigner, and Deonta Pickett.
The Hewitt-Trussville defense allows only 6.8 points per game, while conceding 9.3 points in region play. D'ante Seals leads the Huskies' defensive line. The talented junior has 22 tackles, three tackles for loss, and two sacks. Baasel Alabsi has 33 tackles, five tackles for loss, and two sacks. Preston Bozeman has 20 tackles, three tackles for loss, and two sacks.
The linebackers have Peyton Floyd, an all-state player. This season, he has 54 tackles, nine tackles for loss, four sacks, and an interception. Sophomore Antonio Wynn has 54 tackles, nine tackles for loss, and five sacks. De'Narrius Crawford has 46 tackles, eight tackles for loss, four sacks, and an interception. Harrison Malone has 42 tackles, five tackles for loss, and two sacks.
The Huskies' secondary is led by Will Phillips, who can play deep in the secondary or make tackles around the line of scrimmage. Phillips has 36 tackles, one tackle for loss, a sack, and a punt return for a touchdown. Caden Ali has 18 tackles and two interceptions. Cornerback Ethan Ridley has an interception. Kaleb Kynard is another safety for the Huskies' defense.
Anthony Hrbacek handles the punting duties and is averaging 34.2 yards per punt. Nathan Fritz is 21 of 23 on extra points, while Henry Ferrell has kicked a 37-yard field goal against Hillcrest this season.
