Leaf Trading Cards is looking to set up NIL deals with rising high school quarterbacks all over the United States. Leaf was looking for the top 10 QBs in the nation and Thompson quarterback Trent Seaborn fits what Leaf is looking for. They would like to have trading cards for high school quarterbacks and have contacted Seaborn. Leaf is trying to get a head start over Topps and Panini trading cards.
"The deal that an agent gave us from Leaf is four years for $300,000 per year for a Leaf Trading Card," said Jason Seaborn, Trent's father. "Leaf wants to lock these kids while they are still in high school with a lot of money. Since we don't have a NIL deal in Alabama, we had to turn it down."
Seaborn had an opportunity to take the life changing money and head to another state like Georgia, Florida, and Texas that have NIL deals in place for their high school athletes. "God has put me on a path to develop and thrive with my brothers and coaches at Thomson," said Warriors QB Seaborn on X. "I know what my coaches and teammates pour into me for my future will be more valuable in the end."
AHSAA Rule 1, Section 8 states that only amateurs are eligible. An amateur is one who does not use his/her knowledge of athletics or athletic skill for gain. In December of 2023, the Alabama legislation of bill HB25, sponsored by Representative Jeremy Gray, D-Opelika, would be a name, image and likeness (NIL) bill for high school athletes. The bill is limited to the athlete and does not allow the use of “marks, including a school logo, school name, school mascot, or trademarked logo or acronym of an athletic association,” alongside some other restrictions.
"Where Trent is in his career at Thompson, it wouldn't make any sence on leaving Thompson and the City of Alabaster," added Jason Seaborn. "The football program at Thompson is special. Trent is on the right path and we believe he is going to achieve his potential. Coach (Mark) Freeman has been very good to us with all the coaches and players at Thompson. We are here for the doration. We don't have any interest in going anywhere else. Trent has felt the same way that our family does, that he is in the right place for his future and is looking forward to the 2024 season."
Coach Freeman is very grateful for everything that the Seaborn family represents. "It is an honor to me and this program," said Warriors head coach Freeman. "They are a family of great vision. They told Trent about the deal and he told his dad he doesn't want to go anywhere but to stay at Thompson. This family has been rock solid from the beginning with us."
Seaborn has offers Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Hawaii, North Carolina, Oregon, Washington, Clemson, South Carolina and more. Over 20 plus offers in all.
