One of the top quarterbacks in the 2023 Class made a verbal commitment today as Briarwood Christian quarterback Christopher Vizzina committed to Clemson today in front of a pack auditorium at Briarwood Christian High School. Vizzina made a short announcement to his team, coaches, family members and then stood up and made the pledge to Clemson.
A big catch for Clemson and Tigers Head coach Dabo Swinney. "The school matches all the values I have," said the QB Vizzina. "I really trust Coach Swinney. I know Clemson will build my character and am looking forward to play football at Clemson and win a national championship. I like how they have balance on offense and it really fits who I am. That is how I want to play." Vizzina had offers from Notre Dame, Georgia, Ohio State, Ole Miss and Auburn.
With this commitment behind him, the talented quarterback is looking forward to his senior season. "I'm looking forward playing with my guys," added Vizzina. "This has been a great process, a great journey and I'm glad to get this out of the way and focus on the season."
Former Samford University standout Ben Neill has been working out quarterbacks since 2014 has been working with Vizzina the last three years. "He has developed so much as a quarterback, from an athletic side of things from the strength and development program at Briarwood," said Neill. "They have done a great job of him learning the Briarwood offense. On the fundamental side of things, he has really fallen in love with improvement. He found out that he really likes to work hard. We have known for a long time that he likes to workout to make an improvement. The colleges coaches have told me during this recruiting process that he is 6'4 but moves like a guy who is 6-foot. So he is very athletic, extremely coordinated for his size. He can make so much happen. A real big arm with a quick release that is rare for his size. He can hang in the pocket and move around to give him additional time in the pocket and still make the play downfield."
Vizzina completed over 68 percent of his passes with over 2,000 passing yards along with 16 touchdowns his junior season and Briarwood Christian Head coach Matthew Forester is looking for his quarterback to really set the tone for the 2023 season. "He hasn't missed a summer workout with all of his recruiting trips and 7-on-7 games going on. He has been focused on Briarwood football," said Forester. "I'm glad he can rest easy with the recruiting. He is such a great person on putting us first in this process and that really means a lot to me and Clemson is getting a really special kid. Always puts the team first and is so loved by his teammates. I am looking forward for him to lead this team and help out the young guys like others did for him. The football field will take care of itself. The team chemistry is so important and he gets another year to bring the team together before he heads off to the next level."
