RB #10 Marcus Webb with a touchdown run for the Bucs.

TRUSSVILLE, Alabama -- The Hoover Bucs scored two fourth quarter touchdowns and go on to defeat Hewitt-Trussville 38-24 in their new $15 million dollar football complex in Trussville. The game was tied at 24-24 early in the fourth quarter while the Bucs defense created a couple fourth quarter turnovers that was the difference in the game.

Hoover (7-2, 7-0) has a seven-game winning streak and used a strong running game with some key passes on offense for their 38 points. "Our backs ran hard tonight," said Bucs head coach Josh Niblett. "Our tight ends Riley Niblett, Quincy Cox and Kris Parker, I was proud of their effort. Our offensive line did a great job of blocking in the box."

Two of the big guns in the Bucs running game was Webb with a career high 185 yards on 25 carries and two touchdowns along with Bradrick Shaw 128 yards on 21 carries and two touchdowns. "The offensive line did a great job," said the Bucs running back Webb. "The line just told me where to run and I did it and came out with great results. Coach does a great job of rotating the running backs and get a feel of the game. When Bradrick runs it motivates me to run my best. He is such a great back. Kris did a great job of blocking. He does such a great job that it is easy to run behind him."

Hewitt-Trussville (5-4, 3-4) scored early in the game. The Huskies went on a 5-plays 65-yard drive and with 9:58 in the first quarter, Zac Thomas ran for a 29-yard touchdown for the first TD of the Hewitt-Trussville Stadium. The Huskies took a 7-0 lead.

Hoover came back to tie the game when Webb scored on a 15-yard touchdown run. Hoover took a three point lead when Hunter Schmith kicked a 22-yard field goal early in the second quarter.

Hoover scored another touchdown with 2:08 left in the half when Jack Hutcheson threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Cox. The Huskies scored right before the half on a 46-yard field goal by Thomas McGettigan. The halftime score was Hoover 17, Hewitt-Trussville 10.

Hoover scored first in the second half when Shaw raced in the end zone on a 11-yard TD run. "Holes opened up because of our offensive line," said Bucs running back Shaw. "We are a complete offense with Kris (Parker) in our lineup. He has to do the dirty work sometimes upfront on some of those blocks. He is such a hard worker and we are a better team with him back healthy right now."

The Huskies came back to tie the game due to two third quarter touchdowns. The first one came on a Thomas 1-yard TD run. On the ensuing kickoff, the Bucs fumbled the ball and the Huskies picked up the fumble. Five plays, 27-yards later, Thomas scored on an 8-yard touchdown. The game was now tied at 24 all.

With 8:10 left in the game, Webb scored his second touchdown on a 1-yard run to give the Bucs the lead for good. That drive was a huge 9-play, 68-yard drive. With 6:47 left, B.J. Hall picked off a Huskies pass for a key defensive play by the Bucs. Shaw scored the final touchdown on a one-yard run to give the Bucs a little breathing room. "The inside receiver ran a wheel route," said Bucs corner Hall. "Watching film we knew that when they run the wheel, they are going to throw the ball to a certain area and I was in the right place at the right time."

Hewitt-Trussville put their offense on the backs of Thomas for most of the game. The junior QB completed 18-for-34 passes for 255 yards while adding 52 yards on 19 carries and three touchdowns on the ground. His two fourth quarter interceptions along with a fumble by a Huskies receiver was to much for the Huskies to overcome in the fourth quarter. "There quarterback is an excellent player," Niblett added. "I was worries about him all week just because he can run around and extend plays. He is such a great athlete that understands their offense and does a great job for them."

Up next for the two teams. Hoover will host Blackman, Tennessee one of the top teams in Tennessee while Hewitt-Trussville will host the #1 team in Class 6A Clay-Chalkville.
